Ulmus minor subsp. minor
Cultivar
'Cucullata'
Origin
England

The Smooth-leaved Elm Ulmus minor subsp. minor cultivar 'Cucullata' was listed by Loddiges (Hackney, London) in the catalogue of 1823 as Ulmus campestris cucullata, and later by Loudon in Arb. Frut. Brit. 3: 1378, 1838, as U. campestris var. cucullata, having "leaves curiously curved, something like a hood" [1]. It is unlikely the tree remains in cultivation; a specimen at the Ryston Hall [2], Norfolk, arboretum, obtained from the Späth nursery in Berlin[2], was killed by the earlier strain of Dutch elm disease prevalent in the 1930s.
