The European White Elm Ulmus laevis cultivar 'Punctata' was first mentioned by Schelle in Beissner[3] et al. Laubholz-Benennung 87, 1903 as U. effusa (: laevis) f. punctata, but without description. Schneider described it the following year in Ill. Handb. Laubh. 1: 213, 1904 as having leaves flecked with white [1]. The tree was never grown in the UK [2], and is not known to remain in cultivation elsewhere.
