Ulmus americana
Cultivar
'Nigricans'
Origin
Zöschener Baumschule, Germany

The American Elm Ulmus americana cultivar 'Nigricans' was a selection made from seedlings raised by the Zöschener Baumschule, Germany, at the end of the 19th century. The tree, distinguished by its very dark green foliage, was occasionally listed as 'Nigrescens', causing confusion with a U. minor cultivar of that name [1]. It is unlikely 'Nigricans' remains in cultivation.
