Eugene Edigin 19 black /ethnic minority 3/01 Psychiatric Hospital He attended the psychiatric unit at the Whittington hospital and was detained the day before his death under the Mental Health Act because of 'erratic behaviour'. The following day he was found unconscious in his bed. The inquest in February 2003 recorded an Open Verdict. His family were critical of staff who they allege failed to monitor his diabetes. Between 1990 and 2004, 25 children have taken their own lives in prison and two have died in secure training centres[3] .
