Talk:UK Detector Finds Database

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

[edit] Background

This material was added to the page on metal detectors by an anon. Given that it covers a small computer database (c. 2000 items) held by an organisation operating in only one country, I felt that it was too specific for the main page and hived it off here with a link from the original article and from the Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) page. Aside from the formatting, copyvio and potential POV, the subject database itself may yet be too small to be notable, that's up to you people to decide.

To add some information that could improve the article, the UKDN is a web database of amateur metal detector finds held by an independent group which for numerous reasons prefers not to use the official PAS. To say anything further is to invite the never-ending flamewar of MDs vs archaeologists onto the wiki, which I'd rather not see. adamsan 17:56, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

As the poster of the article on metal detectors regarding the UKDFD and a member of the administration of the UKDFD, there are no copyright problems with the article. It was posted to give a more balanced view to the one-sided article that was originally posted. UKDFD is not a commercial site and is run on a voluntary basis by metal detectorists.
