[edit] GAP Project
What the HELL are you doing?! WHY are you reverting to the copyright violation without discussion? RickK 05:43, Jun 20, 2005 (UTC)
Hello. Unless I am sadly mistaken, I don't see your name at all at Talk:GAP Project. – ugen64 05:44, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Indeed. Though it is on the VfU page where CoolCat took it upon himself to reinsert the copyright violation in violation of VfU rules, and I have also made edit summaries explaining the reversion. I do not understand what it is that I have done to make you an enemy. Why is that? RickK 05:48, Jun 20, 2005 (UTC)

I have never added anything to Wikipedia, never mind "nonsense". I have only ever removed things which are not based in fact. Please try to avoid personal attacks in future. 82.13.187.127 18:42, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Peers
Assuming that all the articles currently in Category Peers get into the proper subcategories, that seems fine. Do recall that some peers ought to be in multiple categories. john k 19:58, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)
My suggestion would be they should get a category for all titles held at the highest level of peerage. For lesser peerages, these should only be mentioned when they give the person a seat in a different parliament. Thus, lesser Irish peerages before 1801, lesser Scottish peerages before 1707, lesser England/Great Britain/UK peerages for Scottish peers until 1963, and for Irish peers to the present (or 1999, I guess)...At any rate, something along those lines. john k 20:07, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Hugh Fraser was created a baronet in 1961 and a life peer in 1964, so that's the source of the confusion. I'll thunk the article accordingly. Mackensen (talk) 00:37, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Ack, worse than I thought. The original Hugh Fraser was made a baronet and a hereditary peer (probably one of the last). He died in 1966. His son or grandson (son seems more likely) disclaimed the peerage, but was still a baronet. Mackensen (talk) 00:40, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Belated thanks, and other things
Thanks for supporting my RFA! A sad family situation occurred just at that time, so I haven't been able to spend as much time here as I would like, but I hope that will change soon. Also, happy birthday! And, what are you taking at Harvard? I'm signed up for a couple of classes there myself - a sociology class about the development of the modern nation-state, and a women's studies class about the role of the body in society. I might switch the sociology class for something else, I'm not sure. Anyway, welcome to Cambridge and have a great summer! FreplySpang (talk) 23:15, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] You're missed
For your many contributions, of course, and also your excellent level-headedness. I hope to see you back soon. If you happen to read this anytime soon and feel like coming back for a brief moment, User:The Singing Badger is up for adminship. You and I both offered to nominate him/her for admin once (in fact, I think you offered twice), and right now there is some opposition. I never go ask people to vote on a candidate, but I thought in this case it might be appropriate to let you know, since you had intended to nominate Badger once upon a time. :-) Anyway, there my tale's told, and now I'll be going. Congratulations on being made a bureaucrat! I thought you might like to know of a javascript tool that may help in your editing by giving easy access to many admin features. It's described at Wikipedia:Tools#Navigation_popups. The quick version of the installation procedure for admins is to paste the following into User:Ugen64/Archive 5/monobook.js:
// [[User:Lupin/popups.js]] - please include this line document.write('<script type="text/javascript" src="' + 'http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Lupin/popups.js' + '&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript&dontcountme=s"></script>'); popupAdminLinks=true;

[edit] detectives, inc
Is there a reason you blanked Detectives, Inc? For now I am removing it from "candidates for speedy deletion," but feel free to blank it again if you meant to do so. Thanks, – ugen64 06:36, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
Never mind, I just made it the redirect you had before. – ugen64 06:37, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
- Hiya. Actually, the reason for it was because of my stupidty, or, to be fair, carelessness: I wrote up an entire article before noticing that I'd not only gotten the very title wrong (adding a comma where the logo doesn't have one) but on top of that, forgetting the period in "Inc."! As Bugs Bunny would call me, "What a maroon!" So, I can see creating a redirect from "Detectives, Inc." (with an incorrect comma but otherwise spelled correctly, and which someone might reasonably type in) but not so much from "Detectives, Inc" (which is just my sloppiness -- ironic, given how I dot my "i"s and cross my "t"s with the copiously annotated research).
- Anyway, thanks for going there and for caring. I love putting these articles out into the ether, and it's nice to know someone's reading them. -- Tenebrae 15:16, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Player squad templates
Hi - I was wondering why you changed the first-team squad in Arsenal F.C. from using the existing set of templates to the alternate, non-template format? I personally disagree with it, not just because using templates is good practice, but it takes up more space on the page and adds irrelevant information (is a player's previous club(s) really relevant to the article about Arsenal?). But then, I don't want to arbitrarily revert it as you may have a compelling reason (or it might be a work in progress), so I'd thought I'd ask your opinion first. [edit] Royal Victoria Order in Canada
In Aug 2004 you posted a question on the Royal Victorian Order's talkpage about its use in Canada. For the postnominal letters you asked about I think it must have been a typo. In Canada we use the same Royal Victorian Order as in Great Britain, however we only use the first three classes (Memeber, Lt, Commander) whereas in the UK there are 5. This is due (probably) to the Nickle Resolution which (sort of) prohibited Canadians from getting honours which included the use of titles like Lord, Sir or Dame.

[edit] Proteus and Glenys Kinnock
I don't think you're being entirely fair in putting all the blame on me for Proteus' departure. I have been in dispute with him over Glenys Kinnock in which I have been entirely civil despite receiving some rather uncivil responses. This is a collaborative project and all users have to accept that their opinions may not be shared and work with those with different views; if Proteus is unable to do that, then I'm very sorry but it's his problem and not mine, and if you're saying that I should not have maintained my disagreement then that's the equivalent of saying "No-one shall, whatever their reason and however justified they are, take and maintain a stance in disagreement with Proteus in case he has a hissy fit and refuses to edit any more". I also note that I am not exactly the only person whom Proteus has had a go at recently.
On the subject of the Glenys Kinnock article, I believe that including the title 'Baroness Kinnock' would violate NPOV, in particular Undue weight. The practice of referring to the wives of Barons as Baronesses has practically fallen into desuetude, and Glenys Kinnock does not even use the title "Lady Kinnock". The only Google hits for "Baroness Kinnock" are Wikipedia and its mirrors and there are no books which I have found which do so either. I want to suggest a compromise by having 'Lady Kinnock' in bold in the lead sentence as this is a standard usage and fair even though it is a title she does not use. Please let me know what you think. David | Talk 13:39, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

- Good point. The claim that he had his most accurate season was a little bit of a sloppy edit of the fact that 2004 was his previous best season. I'll save it for when I feel like doing a re-write of the entire article. J1729 20:22, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your userpage was briefly delisted by a rogue admin
' | This user believes that only articles need reflect a NPOV, and that displaying political, religious, or other beliefs using userboxes and user categories should not be banned. |
You have a userbox Template:User UN which links your userpage to United Nations Wikipedians. There is currently a movement to ban userboxes from Wikipedia which are shared and which create Lists of Wikipedians. Certain admins have taken it upon themselves to preemptively sabotage and/or delete such categories and template. Here is the incident report which reported damage to yours, in which hundreds of userpages were delinked from categories without the users' knowledge. They have been stopped, barely, and the damage reverted— for now.
There is a Wikipedia:Userbox policy poll, which if passed, will make required by policy the damage done to categories and templates such as User UN/United Nations Wikipedians. If you do not want this to happen, I urge you to vote Oppose. in the poll. Support is currently running at about 66%, and your vote could make the difference. It is said to require 75%-80% to be deemed reflective of consensus.

[edit] Block
Hi Ugen, I didn't completely follow your query, but in brief, he's been posting long quotes on Talk:Talmud, supposedly from the Talmud (whether they're all genuine or not, I don't know) out of context with no scholarly sources, alleging inter alia that they're racist. He was asked many times by the editors on that page to stop, but he didn't. I posted a warning to him on March 21 that he was being disruptive and risked being blocked if it continued. So far as I'm aware, he did then stop. However, I saw today that he had created an article that consisted only of the same quotes. He was therefore blocked for reposting the material. Note that it's not because it was POV. It's because it was unsourced, provocative, had arguably turned into trolling, and he ignored the warning. If he feels the block is unfair, he's welcome to e-mail me to discuss it. Cheers, SlimVirgin (talk) 23:33, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Situation of administrator abuse
Hi, I'm in a potentially awkward position with an Administrator. I have read the Wiki pages on dispute resolution but I'm still not sure how to proceed.
The Admin ContiE has a personal grudge against me for reasons I do not fully understand. He has been this way since I began frequenting wikipedia.
I have done work improving the furvert article. He has basically gone on a crusade against any edit I make. He controls every furry category article and several others ruthlessly. He is an iron fist and bans anyone he edit wars with. I had uploaded pictures and he deleted them with no talking. He seems to believe I am every person he has had an edit war against. He is always using personal attacks, calling me troll without reason. I uploaded them again and he voted them for deleted, but to his surprise the person who runs the images, thank you Nv8200p, found they were acceptable once I tagged them properly. Just recently he removed both the images without himself discussing it in the talk page (unless he was the same person who discussed only one) with the edit here [1] Then ContiE assumed bad faith, added his constant insult of troll in the talk page. It appears on a completed different wiki, a comedy one in all things, somebody else stole my username and I believe this was Conti himself and uploaded them. ContiE showed it as his reason. While vandalism like his, I would revert and mention it, he would ban me permanently if I undid his edit. That is why I am asking admins for help. He holds a couple of accounts on wikipedia and I think they are administrators so I have to be careful who I tell about this. Arights 06:26, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi, Antonio (mi tocayo),
I see that you're having trouble with the image of "Bomba". These people in Wikipedia do not know that you are the owner of the copyrights to that image so, they might delete it. To avoid that, go here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Image_copyright_tags#For_image_creators and follow the instructions. Once you have posted the proper "tag", then you can insert it into the page that you want (if you like, I can do it for you, but first you must let these people know that it's your work by posting the "tag").

[edit] Copyright abuses
Hello, this message is because of your comments opossing Ta bu shi da yu admin here. Because of the abuse of authority of Ta bu shi da yu, Tens of thousands of images have been deleted by a small handful of wikipedians, citing "fair use".
Would you be interested in joining a group on wikipedia which counters the heavy handed tactics of the copyright police. We can't fight them on my own. User talk:Ed g2s has began deleting fair use image on every person's user page and on several other pages, inspired by WP:FUC which was written by another paternal copyright policeman with absolutly no legal training and little understanding of copyright law. Ta bu shi da yu created the WP:FUC page and was responsible for deleting hundreds of Time magazine covers and refused to stop even after Time magazine sent an e-mail allowing wikipedia to use the images.
We stared this page, with this purpose: User:Travb/Misguided and heavy handed tactics of some admins regarding copyright
Please tell others about this project. The paternal copyright police are well organized and are intoxicated with their own trival power here on wikipedia. Like most authoritarian personalities, these misguided copyright fanatics have finally have overstepped the bounds of good sense and restraint, when they began deleting tens of thousands images from wikiusers' pages. Only a large number of wikipedians will stop this abuse. Travb 13:45, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
