UFC 46: Supernatural was a mixed martial arts event held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship on January 31, 2004, at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event was broadcasted live on pay-per-view in the United States, and later released on DVD. Headlining the card was a Light Heavyweight championship bout between Randy Couture and Vitor Belfort. The evening also marked the debut of future welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre. The total fighter payroll for UFC 46 was $540,500.[2]

Serra defeats Curran by unanimous decision. All three judges scored the bout 30-27 in favor of Serra.
Thomson defeats Franca by unanimous decision. All three judges scored the bout 29-28 in favor of Thomson.
Georges St. Pierre, making his UFC debut, defeats Karo Parisyan by unanimous decision. Judges scored the bout 29-28, 30-27, and 30-27 for St. Pierre.

Murray defeats Rivera by submission (Triangle Armbar) at 1:45 of round one.
In a rematch, Frank Mir defeats Wes Sims by knockout (punches) at 4:21 in round two. In their previous encounter, Sims was disqualified after stomping on a grounded Mir's head.
In a staggering upset, B.J. Penn defeats Matt Hughes via submission (rear naked choke) at 4:39 of round one. Penn becomes the UFC Welterweight champion. Hughes was on a 6 fight win streak in the UFC, 5 being title defences. Shortly after, BJ Penn left the UFC due to contract disputes and was stripped of the UFC Welterweight title.
In the evening's swing bout, Verissimo defeats Newton by unanimous decision. All three judges scored the bout 30-27 in favor of Verissimo. Although the bout was originally slated to take place at 170 lbs, Newton had issues with cutting weight, and agreed to meet Verissimo at 175 lbs.
In the main event of the evening, Vitor Belfort defeats Randy Couture by technical knockout (doctor's stoppage) at :49 of round one. Belfort landed a grazing punch to Couture's left eyelid, prompting the ringside doctors to call a stop to the bout. Belfort becomes the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion.
