The UEFA Cup 2009-10 will be the 39th edition of the UEFA Cup football tournament, and the first edition under the new format. The final will be played at the HSH Nordbank Arena, home ground of Hamburger SV, in Hamburg, Germany.[1]

[edit] Association Team Allocation
A total of 160 teams will participate in the 2009-2010 UEFA Cup, from 53 UEFA associations. Countries are allocated places according to their UEFA league co-efficient.
The UEFA Cup title holder 2008-09 will be guaranteed a place in the group stage even if they do not obtain a qualifying place through their domestic league, unless they qualify for the Champions League.
The allocation system may change slightly depending on the title holder's domestic placing.
Below is the qualification scheme for the 2009-2010 UEFA Cup:
- Associations 1-6 each have 3 teams qualify
- Associations 7-9 each have 4 teams qualify
- Associations 10-53 each have 3 teams qualify, except Liechtenstein, Andorra and San Marino (one team each)

The following 50 teams are certain to compete in the First Qualifying round of the UEFA Cup:

The following 55 teams are going to participate in the Second Qualifying Round. Also entering are 25 winners from previous round.

The following 30 teams are going to participate in the Third Qualifying Round. Also entering are 40 winners from previous round.

The following 24 teams are going to participate in the Fourth Qualifying Round. Also entering are 35 winners from previous round along with 15 losers from the UEFA Champions League 2009-10 2nd qualifying round (10 champions) and the First qualifying round (5 non-champions)

The following teams are going to participate in the group stage:
- UEFA Cup 2008-09 winner
- 10 losers from the UEFA Champions League 2009-10 Third qualifying round
- 37 winners from the fourth qualifying round
In the group stage teams will be divided into 12 groups by 4 teams.

The following teams are going to participate in the knockout phase:
- 12 group-winners from the group stage
- 12 runners-up from the group stage
- 8 3rd place teams from UEFA Champions League 2009-10 group stage

The final of the UEFA Cup 2009-10 will be held at an as yet unknown date at the HSH Nordbank Arena in Hamburg, Germany. This will be the second time that the home stadium of Hamburger SV hosts a UEFA Cup Final, with the other final occuring in 1982.
