UEFA Badge of Honour

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The UEFA Badge of Honour was introduced for the start of the 2000-01 competition. The badge itself adorns the left sleeve of the team's shirt during Champions League and UEFA Cup matches (and with some of the honoured clubs in their domestic football also). It is oval-shaped, with an outline of the European Cup trophy in white with part of the Champions League starball upon the trophy, on a navy blue background. Above the trophy is the total number of titles held by the club.

[edit] Honoured clubs

Five clubs have kept the actual trophy, and so have been awarded the prestigious badge of honour:

  • Flag of Spain Real Madrid CF after six wins, 1956-60 and 1966. They have since won it three more times, in 1998, 2000, and 2002.
  • Flag of the Netherlands AFC Ajax after their third consecutive win in 1973. They won a fourth in 1995.
  • Flag of Germany FC Bayern München, after their third consecutive win in 1976. They won a fourth in 2001.
  • Flag of Italy AC Milan, after their fifth title in 1994, and have since won it two more times - in 2003 and 2007.
  • Flag of England Liverpool FC, after their fifth title in 2005.
