Udhaya is a Tamil film which released on March 28, 2004 and was directed by Azhagam Perumal. This film has Vijay in the main lead. Simran played his love interest. The film did not do well at the Chennai box office.

Udhaya (Vijay) and Vasanthi (Simran) are collegemates and they fall in love. But soon he comes to know that she is engaged to be married. After he moves to Chennai and finds a job as a reporter at a magazine. He tries to fight for social change. One day Udhaya is arrested for a crime which he is not responsible. The movie is about how Vasanthi fights to prove his innocence and to get him out of the bars.
It was considered to be a prospective highlight in actor Vijay's career. The film, however, bombed at the box office, and the primary reason attributed to this was the delay in production. It was in production for 5 years.[citation needed]
