Uday Shankar was not a classical dancer as mentioned,he created his own dance form,based on the essence of Indian folk dance as well as some of the classical styles,as Kathakali,Manipuri etc. What he had taken from the west was,presentation,duration and discipline.But never was there any resemblance or influence of western ballet in his choreographic presentations.
