Former UC Davis Fire engine. Presently used by the Aggie Pack booster club as a promotional vehicle
The UC Davis Fire Department provides fire and emergency services to the UC Davis campus and Davis community. The department was started in 1917 when the need was recognized by the Dean of the College of Agriculture.[1] Initially, the apparatus of the fire department were hand-drawn carts and professors and students were assigned to a cart in the event of a fire. By 1949, the department established a resident firefighter program and later began hiring career firefighters. The student resident firefighter program began in 1955, and is one of only two fire departments in the UC system, along with the UC Santa Cruz Fire Department. The UC Davis Fire Department provides truck company service for the city of Davis and is the primary member of the Yolo County Hazmat Team. UC Davis also maintains a California Office of Emergency Services (OES) reserve engine to provide statewide mutual aid for large disasters such as wildland fires or earthquakes.
