UC 2.0
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
UC 2.0 is a term describing the trend in Unified communications, which brings the convergence of VoIP telephony, email, messaging, mobile communications, video, conferencing and presence into a single platform and more often than not uses software and more particularly a softphone to enable the end user to define their environment.
UC 1.0 was vendor defined, whereas UC 2.0 is user defined.

[edit] Definition
user defined unified communication is where the user, using a customized application, chooses the access medium (the device), the services (voice, video, presence (presentity), SMS, MMS, chat, etc.), and the network (fixed or mobile).
UC 2.0 is about presence enabled voice/video/messaging/fixed/mobile convergence.
[edit] UC 2.0 Applications
UC 2.0, much like Web 2.0 was early in 2001, is in its infancy. Companies such as Avaya, Cisco Systems, CounterPath, IBM, Microsoft, and Nortel, are either on their own or in conjunction with partners providing components of UC 2.0.
