[edit] Template beautification

[Copied (almost) verbatim from link above]

I created this template only later to find that one under a different name -UC Davis- has been created. I'm terribly sorry for not checking this first (although I did try multiple searches for templates for University of California, Davis, to avoid duplication. I believe this template conveys more info than the UC Davis one and hope the two can be merged. I will wait for others' opinions before I add this to any UCD related pages --Vince 08:14, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I see you've retrofitted my template design (originally for UCSC) for Davis. I'm quite flattered. However, there's one thing I have to warn you about. The UCs' official seals are copyrighted by the Regents, and it is only compliant with Wikipedia's fair use policies to use the seals in the main, "mother" articles fo each of the UCs. The image slot on my design initially held UCSC's "Fiat Slug" unofficial logo (which I love) -- until I got this same warning that I'm now passing on to you.
If you would like any help in making this template Davis-specific (e.g., changing the blue-and-gold coloring from Santa Cruz's official shades to Davis's, etc.), just drop me a line on my user page. --Dynaflow 11:53, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
Nice picture choice. I've always liked Shields (not as much as McHenry, of course, but I am somewhat biased in that regard). I've changed the colors from UCSC's primary palette to Davis's. The Slug Yellow just didn't look quite right on a Davis template in place of the actual goldish color of which Davis's administrators seem so fond. Note the official shades of blue and gold for UCD are rendered in HEX as #002666 and #BF9900, respectively.
I would also suggest cropping the photo to make it more "vertical." This will allow you to easily expand the userbox, by increasing the size of the thumbnail, without the danger of the photo growing to immense proportions on its horizontal axis and taking over your navbox like an out-of-control slime mold. Even with the UCSC picture I have in Santa Cruz's box's dimensions, I'm going to have to shave a bit off the left or right sides of the thing if the navbox gets much bigger. --Dynaflow 01:55, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Student Media to Student Life

Would it be better to change student media to student life so we can include things like the Band-uh! or Unitrans? Nguyenmdk 06:29, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

By all means, change it and include whatever you see fit. The "student media" thing is a relic of its predecessor (UCSC's template is divided into "Schools & Colleges," "Research and Services" {where I put UCSC's student-life related stuff}, and "Student Media," currently with three entries, but left separate from everything else in anticipation of a lot more entries to be written at a later date). --Dynaflow 06:51, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
Oh, also, I've come out with a new version of the template upon which this one was based, which is more in line with the pan-UC one I created earlier today. The new UCSC template and its coding can be found here: Template:University of California, Santa Cruz --Dynaflow 06:56, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Line Breaks and Wrapping

Adding <br> in order to prevent wrapping really doesn't solve any problems because wrapping depends on what text size you have. On my computer with default text size the links wrap with the current breaks. Nguyenmdk 18:22, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

You're right about that. I just looked at the template at different screen resolutions with text size at the default 100% text size in Opera ("the bestest brower in the whole wide world") and things start to wrap when going from 1024x768 down to 800x600. I also went downstairs and looked at it using a really low screen resolution using Firefox 2 on my dedicated, old'n'clunky Debian machine (I was too lazy to restart from XP and reboot in Linux on this computer =) and saw generally the same phenomenon.
However, my main concern with the text wrapping was that, since it's been set up so there're no subheading dots at the beginning or end of each line, no matter where in each list the line breaks, the text might wrap in lower-resolution browsers and force two links together and make them look like one, unseparated link at lower resolutions. Using the line break still seems to accomplish keeping things separated by either dots or line breaks. --Dynaflow 19:58, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] adding athletics?

should an athletics section be added? it could encompass GunRock, Paviollion,Aggie Stadium, Snowboard & SKi Team, or something, or should that be blended into 'Campus?' other possiblities include causeway classic, battle for the golden horsehow, etc.? 70.133.76.83 (talk) 22:33, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
