UAV Corp.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

UAV Corporation or commonly known as UAV Entertainment is an entertainment company founded in 1984 as a small local company. As of 2002 the company was purchased by Morgenthaler Partners due to increasing demands. Its headquarters is located in Charlotte, North Carolina.

On June 14, 2006, UAV Corp. laid off 172 employees, claiming payroll funding had been cut. A week later, the total number of layoffs had increased to 293 employees.

A class action lawsuit was filed by former employees against UAV Corp. & Morgenthaler Partners, seeking 60 days pay and unpaid benefits. The lawsuit claimed UAV did not give advance warning of the layoffs, as is required by the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, also called the WARN Act. UAV claimed that it was not required to give a 60 day notification in advance of the layoff because the WARN Act excuses layoffs due to unforeseen business circumstances.
