From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Uashat-Maliotenam (or Innu Takuaikan Uashat Mak Mani-Utenam in Innu-aimun) is an Innu reserve in the Canadian province of Quebec. The reserve consists of two distinct settlements, Uashat and Maliotenam, located near the city of Sept-Îles.

Both communities have road access via Route 138. The communities had a combined population of 2,231 in the Canada 2001 Census, with an estimated 609 additional members of the Uashat-Maliotenam band living outside of the communities.

Although the two communities are not adjacent to each other, being located at opposite ends of Sept-Îles, they are governed as a single political entity. The current chief of Uashat-Maliotenam is Élie-Jacques Jourdain.

The two most internationally famous members of the Innu nation, musicians Florent Vollant and Claude McKenzie of the musical group Kashtin, come from Maliotenam.
