[edit] Dave's link
I took out the link to David Cameron for now - I'm pretty sure Dave isn't the leader of the UK Conservative Party... Faradan 21:56, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- I removed the rest of the links since they were going to pages that do not exist. We can always add them back in later when (if) pages are made. Till then it looks bad. I'll add some other stuff later. Mefanch 22:17, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Felix's Pitch Selection
Ok, I think the article may be stretching the truth a little when it comes to this claim. As far as I understand it the letter was shown to reinforce what Chaves had already been saying - a sort of "look, if even some guy in the stands can see what's wrong then you have to take it on board". This article makes it sound as though Chaves read the letter and suddenly decided to alter Felix's pitch selection because of it.
Compare these two quotes -
Source - "Chaves apparently had been telling Hernandez this as well, but when someone in the stands -- he didn't say where -- handed him the "letter" he passed it on to Hernandez for reinforcement."
Wikipedia Article - "An "open letter" to Mariners pitching coach Rafael Chaves about Hernandez's pitch selection that caused the pitching coach to alter Hernandez's pitch selection"
- Nobody has objected in the several weeks since I posted the above, so I'm going to change it. Blankfrackis 13:59, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Sabermetric Pioneers?
From the article: "It has been widely noted as one of the first baseball team-based blogs to extensively utilize statistics and sabermetrics to analyze performance of the team."
First of all, if this is so widely noted, it should be backed up with some citations. Second, I'd say USS Mariner preaches a pretty balanced approach to player evaluation. Dave especially brings a scouting angle to the discussion more often than not. Sure, they throw around things like GB% and fielding independent ERA (FIP) with relative nonchalance, but four-letter vowelless acronyms rarely make an appearance. Walkie 02:51, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
- I think you're correct, it should perhaps be reworded. Blankfrackis 16:16, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
