Tzuriel

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tzuriel (Hebrew: צוריאל‎) is an agricultural cooperative village (moshav) in the Galilee, within Israel's Ma'ale Yosef Regional Council.

The village was established in 1950 on the lands of the former Suhmata, which was captured during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War's Operation Hiram. The original inhabitants were Yemenite Jews from the town of Beit 'Adaqah, lead by spiritual leader Rabbi Shalom Nehorai HaLevi. After a number of years the Yemenis left and a group of Jews from Morocco moved in.

Tzuriel is associated with the Agudat Israel Workers movement. It was named for the biblical figure Zuriel, son of Abihail.
