Tyrone Thompson (born May 8, 1982 in Sheffield, England) is an English footballer, who plays for Torquay United.

[edit] Career

Thompson attended King Edward VII School in Sheffield; he started his career after signing as a trainee at Sheffield United, making four appearances from July 2000 to July 2003. During his three years at Sheffield United, Thompson also had loan spells with Lincoln City and Doncaster Rovers. He moved to Huddersfield Town on a free transfer after his Sheffield United contract expired, staying there until June 2004, and only making two first-team appearances, including only one start. A move to Scarborough followed, where he managed to hold down a first-team place, making 44 starts and scoring two goals. He left Scarborough in August 2005, joining Halifax Town on a free. During this time he accused Northwich Victoria captain Stuart Elliott of racial abuse. Elliott was later cleared.[1] Thompson was a first team regular but, despite the offer of new contract at Halifax he failed to make contact with the West Yorkshire club and became a free agent at the end of the 2006–07 season.[2] It was later reported that he was a possible target for Halifax's Conference National rivals York City,[3] but joined Crawley Town on 27 June 2007.[4]

On 20 May 2008, Thompson signed for Torquay United on a two-year deal,[5] despite having agreed a new deal with Crawley.[6]
