Tyrod Taylor (born August 3, 1989 in Hampton, Virginia) is a quarterback for the Virginia Tech Hokies football team. Taylor is a true freshman for the Hokies and earned the starting QB position after his first NCAA action in the September 8, 2007 game against the LSU Tigers. In that game Taylor completed 7 of 18 passes for a total of 62 yards. Taylor also rushed for 44 yards on 9 attempts including one touchdown. Taylor led the team in both passing and rushing.[1] Tyrod was named the starter by Head Coach Frank Beamer several days later. In his first collegiate start against Ohio University Tyrod threw for 287 yards with a rushing touchdown. 119 of those yards were thrown to Josh Morgan.[2] Glennon has subsequently regained the starting spot after stellar performances in games against Duke, Boston College and Georgia Tech while playing in place of an injured Tyrod.

[edit] Early life

Taylor was born in Hampton, Virginia to Rodney and Trina Taylor.

Taylor played quarterback at Hampton High School and by the end of his career had also become the team's kick returner and safety. He led the team to a 34-4 record during his three years as a starter. He accumulated 7,912 yards of offense and threw for 48 touchdowns as a Crabber. Tyrod graduated from Hampton High School in 2007. Taylor, who is 6-foot-1, 200 pounds and runs a 4.39-second 40, was rated the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback in the nation by Rivals.com. ESPN.com rated him the No. 3 overall quarterback, while Scout.com said he's the nation's seventh-best passer.[3] Taylor narrowed his final two choices down to Virginia Tech and the University of Florida. Taylor was also an honor-roll student throughout his career at Hampton High School. One of Taylor's early accolades includes rushing for 92 yards and 1 TD as well as passing for 204 yards and 2 TDs in leading Virginia Tech to its first victory against FSU in 2 decades. The win was the first ever for Frank Beamer against FSU coach Bobby Bowden.
