The names were changed from Ontario to Tyndale in 1998, following a period of internal restructuring, and is named after William Tyndale, an English Reformation theologian of the sixteenth century.

In 2003, Tyndale College was designated "privately funded institution with degree-granting authority". Tyndale University College & Seminary is fully accredited by the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada to award undergraduate and graduate degrees. The current president is Rev. Dr. Brian C. Stiller.

In June 2006, a press release announced the acquisition of a neighbouring complex, St. Joseph's Morrow Park, from the Sisters of St. Joseph. Classes begin at this property shortly and the university will completely move into the new property by 2010. Like their predecessors at 25 Ballyconnor of Regis College, SJMP has also decided to move into the city.

December 5, 2007 Tyndale has been given final approval to offer a 12-month Bachelor of Education program preparing teachers for primary, junior, and intermediate grades. After an initial process of assessment, Tyndale received approval from the previous minister, the Honourable Chris Bentley, to petition the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT), which completed their study in July 2007 and granted accreditation in August 2007.
