if the current name is ITV1 Tyne Tees, why not rename the article to this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ianleck4 (talkcontribs)

The name is Tyne Tees Television, ITV1 Tyne Tees is only used onscreen. AxG ۝۝۝҈ talkguests 22:11, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Additionally, it has been known as Tyne Tees since 1959; the latest rename is very recent comparatively. Wikipedia:Naming conventions, an official policy on Wikipedia, points out that [g]enerally, article naming should prefer what the majority of English speakers would most easily recognize, with a reasonable minimum of ambiguity, while at the same time making linking to those articles easy and second nature.
In other words, whilst the majority of people (and sources) continue to use Tyne Tees, so must we. But redirects to it from other names are allowed (and are cheap, so redirect away). As a rule of thumb, I'd say the day the apparent authority on these things acknowledges a change, then Wikipedia should do so. But not until. REDVEЯS 22:34, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
