Michael Nguyen (born November 19, 1989[citation needed]), better known by his stage name Tyga, is a pop rap artist signed in 2008 by Young Money Entertainment and Decaydance. Tyga is also believed to be the cousin of Travis McCoy, lead vocalist of the group Gym Class Heroes.[1] Tyga has lived in Compton, California and is a native of Gardena, California.

Nguyen was born to Pasionaye Nguyen, a sports entertainment coordinator. He grew up in Gardena, California, where he attended Catholic school as a child.

Tyga achieved his first recognition opening for Fall Out Boy and Gym Class Heroes during the Young Wild Things Tour in late 2007. He's also received much acclaim and admiration for his top notch performance with Lil' Wayne at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards in Las Vegas. His first single, "Coconut Juice," was released in March 2008 and was directed by Rage.

His first mixtape, No Introduction the Series: April 10th, was released online in April.[2] The second part to the series, No Introduction the Series: May 10th, was released in May.[3]

On May 14, 2008, Tyga revealed to Buzznet that the second single will likely be "First Timers" and will probably be released in the Fall of 2008, "when everybody goes back to school, when everybody doesn't want a girlfriend or boyfriend anymore, 'cause it's not summer. So probably around September we'll drop that."[4]

Tyga is signed to Decaydance Records which, is owned by Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz.

At the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards, Tyga accompanied by his cousin, Travis McCoy, and fellow song mate Lil' Wayne, performed the remix of the Fall Out Boy hit single "This Aint A Scene." Originally thinking that Tyga was a set extra, Lil' wayne openly admitted he was not ready nor expected such a great performance from Tyga. After the show, Tyga and Lil Wayne networked and Tyga eventually started sending tracks to Lil' Wayne. In astonishment of Tyga's lyrical swagger and ability, Lil' Wayne gave Tyga the option to accompany him while on tour. In disbelief of what he had seen time and time again, he immediately signed Nguyen to his record imprint: Young Money Entertainment. a subsidary of Cash Money Records.

G.E.D. Inc. is Tyga's record company imprint. Tyga has one diamond and Silver G.E.D. Inc chain, he also has several tattoos including one above his eyebrows that reads G.E.D. and Inc. from left to right. According to several interviews The G.E.D acronymn has three separate meanings Gettin.Every.Dollar, Grinding.Every.Day, and Gettin.Educated.Daily. Currently the only other rappers known to be signed to G.E.D. Inc. other than Tyga include School Boy Q, and Gata. Gata can be seen in the opening segment of Tyga's debut single "Coconut Juice" in dialogue with Travis McCoy. The labels also has an in house disc jockey, known as D.J. S.B.
