  • Elastic fibers such as titin and elastin. I have this idea that I want to be able to stretch and have great strength, like Luffy, Mr. Fantastic, or Elongated Man. Unfortunately, I may have to invent some new materials since the elasticity of current biological compounds seem inadequate. I have my eye on spider silk and its incorporation into repairing ligament damage. Very interesting. Also interested in bone strengthening, though obviously there might be a tradeoff between ideal strength-structure and bendability. That's okay though, that can be accomodated.
  • Autophagy, the body's method of self-cannibalism in the cells and an aspect of catabolism. I believe this may have something to do with the benefits associated with fasting as well as caloric restriction on lifespan, if what PubMed says rings true. Due to this, enhancing tissue breakdown may in some ways, help you keep it fresh, much as we break down muscle, or stretch to get rid of adhesions. In this way, hyperaminoacidemia starts to make more sense, and the benefits of CRON can overlap with bodybuilding.
  • Autolysis and apoptosis, the body's methods of self destruction. Possibly a programmed cell death. Contrast to cancer, strange an unusual extremes that can be harnessed. Related in idea but not practise to catabolism and anabolism, of great interest to me in studying bodybuilding. Above-referenced autophagy is a method of doing this.
  • Phagocytosis, form of endocytosis, body's method of cells cannibalizing other cells. The properties of lysosomes are shockingly brutal, as well as how we put them to use with yeast. Popular due to our love of bread.
  • Mirror neurons and shunners versus freeloaders in social game theory.
  • Serendipity: I'm greatly inspired by this concept of scientific discovery. The idea that research into any form of science can benefit another. As science becomes more and more complex, and scientists more interconnected, educated, imaginative and explorative, I believe that it will greatly increase. Exponentially even!
  • Circadian rythm: Looking into the validity of this, how it's related to external factors, routein and so forth. I eat and sleep and do physical and mental activities very erraticly, so obviously this would be haywire...
  • Human reliability: Since much of society (save those leeching off altruists) operates under this principle, I'd like to study it more and get a better understanding, and how I can better apply it to my own life so that I can be reliable as a tool of society, but better yet, a tool FOR society, and one I use the way I like.
  • Maslow's hierarchy of needs: About what we react to in primary means of motivation, on average.
  • Epistomology: Thanks to Gareth for referring me to this great page. I'd dabbled in philosophical schools of thought, but I had no idea there was a field dedicated to their study. I've read through many of these and they're fascination, and something I'd been interested in without knowing the word for it for a long time.
  • Endosymbiotic theory: One of the evolutionary theories possibly satisfying criticisms of the overcomplexity of the cell and how they may not have developed in part.
  • Delayed onset muscle soreness: DOMS is something I've experienced before, and is quite interesting, not exactly pain, annoying but possibly something, like hunger, that we can learn from pushing through.
  • Biped: The article goes into quite a bit of detail, and was great for supplementing my knowledge, as I have a great interest in kinesiology and leg balance and power and such things.
  • Transcriptomics: This is a field I'm personally interested in specializing, in biotech, which is related to gene expression and changes in it over time. I feel this is the key to learning about proteomics and actually makes things like gene mapping useful.
  • Astrobiology: Not just the study of alien live (and the probability of it) but the concept of life in general on a plane of all of space rather than earth. With rising overpopulation and increasing space travel, this will becoming a concern later on, hopefully I'll live to meet that day. Oh, and slime mold, for the hell of it.
  • Kalarippayattu: An interesting martial art which combines some concept I appreciate.
  • Auxology: The science of growth, valuable to any study in biology as well as conciousness and individuality.
  • Ghost in the machine: The concept of mind-body duality explored. I plan on watching Ghost in the Shell and Lawnmower Man to further explore such concepts.
  • Walking on water: a very interesting thing. I helped modify this page to include the Water Strider and Basilisk Lizard who can actually attain this in real life. It would be neat to try some day, likely requiring floatation devices though.
  • Game theory, with an especial interest in the prisoner's dilemma. Applying mathematics not actually to the process of decisions, but of the natural selection of trends surrounding reactions to them, is totally ingenious. It combines math, computers, chaos, and in looking at the general line and who wins among the AIs, you get an idea of who gets ahead in the world. Apply it to a different medium, and I can't see why something similar can't work just as well.
  • Behavioural genetics: A big consideration and the nature versus nurture arguments. Just how much of individuality is inherited, combed from the combined chaos of mixing chromozones, in how we are raised, how we encounter things, and general random mutation or anomaly...
  • Attachment theory: Something of interest consider my anomalous (I must like that word) interactions and relations with others, the meaning and uses of attachments, comparing them, making or breaking them, etc. are of interest. The parental role may have a focus due to having a variety of father figures in place of my biological one.
  • Aquatic ape hypothesis and Fisherian runaway as various theories of sexual selection for sparse body hair, long head hair, and youthful appearance. My interest in evolution is in it's potential at identifying strength and superior traits that I may wish to acquire or support. Hair washing and hair conditioners are also cool.
  • Human echolocation/seeing with your ears. I had no idea this even existed, I thought it was the realm of Daredevil. It was brought to my knowledge in Touch the Top of the World which I found to be an inspiring movie. It surprises me that there are paraplegic wannabes... the romanticism with being blind is so much more than any other differing quality. A variety of articles on the topic including sensory substitution, acoustic location, animal echolocation, visual prosthetic, and synaesthesia. I must also wonder if the wonderful creatures the dolphins have their own version of medical ultrasonography and echo sounding for their sea navigation and health sensing.
  • Rancidification/autoxidation of fatty acids in glycerides. Along with putrefaction, decomposition, maceration and fermentation they are articles of interest to me from my research into Category:Food sciences and various preservatives as food preservation techniques (namely meat). Also of interest to my more necrosis-minded goth dark side :)
  • Continuing into oxidation as above, research into electrochemistry, biological instances of it (electric eels), plant-animal photosynthesis/respiration dichotomy and possible personal system energy conservation techniques to be found with them (using body water stores to breathe underwater, CO2 expiration as an energy source of sugars).
  • Somatic disciplines like Pose method, Alexander technique, Eutonics, Feldenkrais method, etc.
  • Live and online flash mobs, pillow fight flash mobs, internet vigilantes, scam baiting, the subway party, smart mobbing, the Wisdom of Crowds, crowd psychology, all very interesting things I must keep in mind. Relates to transhumanist, mental trancendance, general fun mayhem and the sort. Very Ghost in the Shellish.
  • Online data versions related to the above are denial-of-service attacks, flash mob computing, collective intelligence, collaborative software, E-democracy/Internet democracy, recommendation systems, science studies, user generated content, virtual community, social software, computer-supported collaboration
  • Mucophagy and urophagia hold some interest to me if they do inded have any health benefits. I'm rather skeptical, and see it probably as a way as trying to justify a weird habit, but I'm willing to study it. Prior to that, however, I'm certainly not going to engage in it.
  • I think it would be interesting to isolate whatever compound it is that feti secrete in the womb to prevent the mother's immune system from attacking them, and use that in organ or stem cell transplants.
