My paternal ancestor traces back to 1581 in a foiled expedition in present-day Northern New Mexico. At that point, he was a 67 years old auburn haired conquistador and was in a deteriorating health. His expedition party turned around, but he died and was buried somewhere near Rio Grande between Las Cruces, NM and El Paso, TX in 1582.
My maternal ancestor traces back to 1598. They escaped the Pueblo Revolution of 1680. My mom's root was in Santa Barbara, Chihuahua-the exact location where Don Juan de OƱate, a Mexican born conquistador of Spanish parents, began his journey that later established America's first and true Thanksgiving in present-day San Elizario, Texas on April 30, 1598 and later the founding of Santa Fe, NM in 1608.
To this date, my families still reside in the El Paso/Ciudad Juarez area and of course, Northern New Mexico.
Cities I have resided: El Paso, Texas (September 1971- August 1986) & (August 1987- March 1999) Oceanside, California (Summer 1986) Rochester, New York (March-May 1994) Arlington, Texas (March-May 2001) Phoenix, Arizona (September 2000-April 2006) Santa Fe, NM (April 2006-June 2006) Austin, Texas (March-July 1999) & (June 2006-Present)
