[edit] edits to Africa

I wasn't vandalizing the page, someone had made it say "Africa is the most boringist" and I didn't know what originally went there so i put "africa is one of the most underdeveloped" I wouldn't consider that vandalism ;D so can you just remove that warning from my talk page? User talk:Acorn98

Sorry, it seems you meant well. Saying Africa is the most underdeveloped without proper references may be considered by some as a POV statement. For future reference, if you want to change (Revert) vandalism to an earlier good version click on the history tab, select the good version, click on Edit this page and then save the old version. If this is too confusing, refer to Help:reverting. Cheers. :) - TwoOars (T | C) 20:42, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thank You

I am a brand new Wikipedia "editor" (if I can even call myself that because of my inexperience with this medium), and a user posted a comment on my user talk page that read "stop messing with wikipedia if you dont you will be baned [sic] from it idiot". You removed it from my page, giving the reason "removed trolling". I am sure that you have a monitoring program to filter potentially harmful, false, or malicious edits out, and you make a great number of similar edits on other people's pages, but I just wanted to say thank you for helping me out. Keep up the good work.

Glenn.spitler 20:03, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

I appreciate the heads-up about the "Newbies" [1] monitoring page. It can be posited that the amount of time a user has been an "active" member of Wikipedia, i.e. made any edits, may be indicative of several things, inter alia, an inverse correlation to the probability that said user will engage in malicious edits. While I do not have facts proving that this relationship exists, one can reasonably infer how it could potentially be significant. Therefore, I can see the utility in monitoring this "new" class of user. You can guarantee that I'll be watching that page for saliently absurd or incorrect edits from now on. :)
I believe strongly in the bifurcated, and often mutually inclusive, benefits of (1) learning from the experience of others, and conversely, (2) teaching relatively unseasoned peers about one's experiences to further their development. Thanks for doing (2) for me.
"By learning you will teach, by teaching you will learn." - Anonymous Latin Proverb
P.S. -- If I seem like I am using language of an overly florid and circumlocutory nature, the reason is because I've been working hard all week at my law firm in addition to preparing for my LSAT, so the combination of the two is starting to take its toll on me!

[edit] Could you help?

Sory to bother you, but as you seem to fight vandalism regularly, I was hoping you would be able to help me; after reverting an atticle earlier, the article was once again reverted by the origional offending IP address. I read the article on reporting vandalism, but I couldn't quite make sense of it and I was unsure if it applied to IP addresses. Thanks! Monkeymox 20:01, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Email

I enabled it. Thanks! hmwithtalk 05:25, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

I was standing up for myself. The user had no policy supporting his reasons for opposing me, and I even openly claimed that "this is my opinion". hmwithtalk 05:34, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
Haha, yes, but that's my only touchy response, as I did nothing to presume that. It seems that he just assumes that because I've had an account for almost 3 months I'm too new, and am merely "too keen to get the mop". It upsets me, as I am not a stereotype. hmwithtalk 05:43, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
What did I do? I felt that I was very polite in response to the user's accusations. I simply asked for a response, as to why he claimed that. If it's valid, it's valid, it's valid, and I obviously would not argue it. I was simply wondering what it was, so I could be aware in the future as to what I did? hmwithtalk 05:58, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
I know that I would face "real accusations as an admin", and I would always ask why an accusations were made then, just like now. It's not out of line to ask why a user has made an accusation against you. hmwithtalk 06:21, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
Well, I'm very sorry to have lost your "!vote" (no worries, as I'm well aware that it's not a real vote, but I'll use the word for lack of a better term), as it's such a close thing. I completely see what you say now, and I will try to correct this. Thanks for letting me know of about it, and I will definitely make sure not to do this again. I will actually go back and reword the statement now. Cheers. hmwithtalk 12:39, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you very much for welcoming me to WikiPedia

Dear Twooars:

Thank you very much for welcoming me to WikiPedia. I just wanted you to know that I've been posting contributions to Puerto Rican singers, composers, musicians, actors, actresses, comedians, with my great knowledge about them, but the user XLR8TION, has been reporting me as if I were vandalizing Wikipedia, because he feels my contributions are non-notable. I can assure you that they are. I'm a Puerto Rican and live in Puerto Rico and I know what I'm posting and they're for real. Below, I'm posting the letter I received in my talk page from XLR8TION in a very bad manner. I am a serious person and all my contributions can be verified, but they're deleted in seconds by XLR8TION. I hope I can get my next contributions through, without being deleted by someone who doesn't know the real Puerto Rican personalities. Thank you very much for your time, Twooars.

Dear XLR8TION:

I've never vandalized this page ever. My information is totally accurate. I don't know who told you that Mapita Cortes is Mapy Cortes niece. Mapita Cortes is the daughter of Mapy Cortes and Fernando Cortes a great P.R. film director, who's not even in the list, from which she takes his last name, and Mapita was married to Lucho Gatica, a singer from Chile and had a son that actually is a famous actor in Mexico, called Luis Gatica. Both Mapy Cortes and Mapita Cortes passed away. I wouldn't ever vandalize Wikipedia, and I've been posting real people that have contributed to Puerto Rico and are very far away from being non-notables. I've noticed that I'm the one that has been vandalized, when my posts have been deleted. I'm a Puerto Rican and proud to be one, and every contribution I've posted, has been deleted, maybe by you. If you don't know Awilda Carbia, Dagmar, Luis Raul, Marta Romero, Sonia Noemi, Alba Nydia Diaz, Andres Jimenez, el jibaro, Amaury Veray, Edmundo Disdier, Hector Urdaneta, Puchi Balseiro, etc. etc., you're not Puerto Rican. I've contributed with these significant Puerto Ricans, over and over, and I've been deleted, and that's vandalizing my intelligence and knowledge. I hope I can reach you sometime so you can learn more about Puerto Rican actors, actresses, singers, musicians, composers, etc. As I've noticed, you don't know most of the great Puerto Ricans that have been notorious in this field. I have the culture, the knowledge and I'm sure of what I say. I've never vandalized Wikipedia. It's an absurd comment. I hope you can reconsider what you said. Read more and learn more from us, the real Puerto Ricans. Furthermore, I've seen people in the list that I've never known before and I haven't even tried to delete them. All my contributions can be verified, and they're for real.

[edit] Circumcision

Thank you for your advice about editing Twooars. I have a question that you may be able to help me with. I recently added quotes from the major medical associations to the article on Circumcision. They were all carefully cited back to the original source. Jakew immediately removed them. Is there any way I can charge him with vandalism? He removes the statements of the major medical associations and replaces them with his uncited personal opinions.

User:Edwardsville 18:30, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi, you can not call User:Jakew's edits vandalism. And content disputes like this happen all the time on wikipedia. Please do not take it personally. You can go to the article talk page or Jakew's talk page and discuss why he/she does not want your edits to be added and try to reach a solution. Keep your Cool and be Civil. Also remember the 3 revert rule. Do ask me anything else. Cheers.
PS: Please post your messages on the Talk or Discussion pages, not to User pages as you did on mine. Thanks. :) - TwoOars 18:53, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] RfA Thanks

Thanks...
Thank you for showing your support in my recent RfA. Unfortunately, consensus was not really going my way, so I decided to withdraw my self-nomination last night. The final vote tally was (15/7/10). Your support does mean a lot to me, and I will certainly let you know when I go for my next RfA, most likely in a few month's time. Thank you again, and happy editing! [edit] My RfA

Dear Twooars, thank you for you efforts to build consensus on my RfA. As you know, it was unsuccessful. I am not the type of editor to be disheartened by such a result, and have gained much experience.

I will run again, however I am concerned that I may see your name in the same place, for the same reasons. I would greatly appreciate knowing what I could do to earn your support next time.

If you have anything to contribute by way of improvements or comments, please don’t hesitate to tell me. Kind regards, Dfrg.msc 00:30, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] English,Irish,Welsh and Scottish Empire

English Empire goes to British Empire and the British isles are not only England as the Scottish, Irish and Welsh played vital roles in the empire. Johnnai 19:13, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Twooars, British Isles refers to Britain and Ireland. England, Scotland and Wales exist on Britain and Ireland is it's own island. British Empire refers the British isles, not 1 of the 4 countries. The reason I created those articles was because English empire has the same validity of Irish, Scottish and Welsh empire and it would neglect the other 3 countries and ignorantly proclaim it was an "English Empire" alone.
    • If this is the case Twooars then "English empire" should be removed as it is never used.
          • Right I keep a stupid error message everytime I try to reply to your comments on discussion so I am adding them here and you can add them in over there
    • Um, I thought English Empire was a fairly common term...? - TwoOars 20:17, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

What is a novel? What are the elements that must be found in any piece of writing for it to be considered a novel? I think it fair to say that traditional definitions of the word “novel” work along these lines: A novel is a fictitious prose story of book length. In my view, a novel has six basic elements: 1) It must have a society of characters; 2) They must be undergoing transformations; 3) And those must be in the course of a sustained prose narrative; 4) The sustained prose narrative must be impelled by a plot; 5) And it must be unified by clearly discernible central themes; 6) And to the extent possible, it must be universalised by a complex architecture of allegorical and symbolical sub-strata. If I write those six basic elements into a single definition, I come up with this: A novel is a society of characters, undergoing transformations, in the course of a sustained prose narrative, which is impelled by a plot, unified by clearly discernible central themes, and universalised by a complex architecture of allegorical and symbolical sub-strata.

Current debates
  • After lengthy discussions about the {{Infobox_Book}} it has settled down at a possibly permanent layout. Any suggestions are still of course welcome.
