[edit] Merge, or not?

Okay, I merged the 2wd article (about motorcycles) to here (originally only about cars), because it's clear that the term "two wheel drive" can apply to two different classes of vehicles, and wikipedia should disambiguate that in some way. But I'm having second thoughts, since the two applications have basically nothing in common other than the name (and in fact, are antonyms in a way). Another option that I would support would be to split them up again, but rename them to Two wheel drive (4x2) and Two wheel drive (2x2), for the car and motorcycle versions respectively (or use any other consistent and clear terms), and for them to properly note each other's presence. --Interiot 15:40, 4 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Two Wheel Drive / Four Wheel Drive Merger

This article is a stub, and it seems that its contents are quite miniscule to say the least. I propose that there should be a merge of the 2WD and the Four wheel drive articles, seeing as they are both essentially discussing drivetrain. I don't know what would be the best name, maybe something using "drivetrain" in the name. There's no need to have two articles; one with almost no substantial information in it. A merger between 4WD and 2WD would be best in my opinion. It might even be approrpiate to have motorcycle drivetrains in an article that discusses all automobile drivetrain types.

The articles certainly have room to grow. I would personally prefer not to merge though, since the current arrangement allows other articles to blindly link to four wheel drive or two wheel drive as needed. If 2WD was merged to 4WD, I would support merging just the 4x2 section to four wheel drive, and leaving the motorcycle portion here (with a disambig notice at the top noting that 4x2 is covered elsewhere). --Interiot 06:53, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
DISAGREE The two articles should NOT be merged per Interiot's arguments above. BRossow T/C 13:47, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
DISAGREE There will be some duplication, sure, but merging is an awful idea. The result will be a confusing mess. I'd rather see two wheel drive expanded to cover stuff like the Segway. (for those not counting, that's a 3rd two-wheel-drive) The four-wheel-drive article is already burdened with the need to describe numerous complicated systems that are marketed with ambiguous names. 24.110.60.225 06:11, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
