[edit] Bézier curve animations

Hi Twirlip, these animations are fantastic. I agree with User:Jacobolus that they should be nominated as featured animations, so I have put three of them at WP:PPR (Wikipedia:Picture peer review/Bézier curve animations). As I wrote on that page, "One look at these animations and I immediately got how Bézier curves are constructed." Cheers, --Lph 01:18, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Me, too. I nominated them in the de.wikipedia (Kandidaten für exzellente Bilder#Beziérkurven) --80.146.77.251 09:33, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
Me again: Sorry, I had to abort the nomination in the de.wikipedia , cause in the de.wikipedia commas should be used instead of periods as the decimal separator. My fault. --80.146.100.159 10:32, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Wonderful animations! What software did you use to make them? --Elplatt (talk) 21:39, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

It's all a bit embarrassing actually. I actually made them as part of some documentation for ImageMagick. The docs had lots of other example images, all made using shell scripts that ran ImageMagick (except a few that ran POV-Ray). So I did the same for the Bézier curve animations, except in this case it was a shell script that wrote a temporary shell script that actually created the animations. The trouble was the ImageMagick command lines in the temporary shell script got absolutely huge - above about 50 frames, the command line for the fourth-order animation exceeded my kernel's command line limit of 32K! I definitely wouldn't recommend anyone else use this method. --Twirlip (talk) 13:38, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi Phil,

Just to let you know that the Featured Picture Image:Bezier 3 big.gif is due to make an appearance as Picture of the Day on August 19, 2007. If you get a chance, you can check and improve the caption at Template:POTD/2007-08-19. howcheng {chat} 00:30, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
