[edit] Ride Summary
[edit] Queue
The attraction takes guests to a small mock-up of the Oklahoma town of Wakita. Video monitors show home movies of tornadoes shot, and signs carry information about the Fujita Scale.
[edit] Pre-Show
As guests walk into the "Twister filming center", Twister stars Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt talk about filming the movie. At the conclusion, guests walk into a new room which is a model of Aunt Meg's house after the twister. When guests walk into the kitchen, televisions are impaled into the wall, supposedly by force. Bill and Helen appear on the TV and talk about what is ahead. The moment they finish, guests walk into a set resembling the drive-in scene in the movie.
[edit] Main-Show
Suddenly, sirens go off, scenes from The Shining (which is being shown at the drive-in in the actual movie) appear on the screen, and then winds in the room get stronger. A small light can be seen inside a mock-up of a house, as well as voices from a family getting into their storm cellar. A simulated tornado drops from the sky, water sprinklers turn on and a tree is split in half by lightning. The tornado wrecks the drive-in screen, the diner, and the car, and causes a fireball to erupt. The roof of the observation platform also threatens to tear off. As the "storm" dies, the floor of the standing area lurches with a sudden drop, giving guests a final scare. Participants are then directed to exit through a gift shop named Aftermath.
[edit] Future
In 2010, Twister... Ride it Out will open in Universal Studios Singapore.
[edit] Trivia
- To resemble the lifelikeness of an actual F5 tornado, Universal Parks & Resorts entered talks with tornado meteorologists to discover the exact sight, sound, and feel of the experience.
- Universal Executives originally planned to open the attraction in Fall, 1997, However, a large tornado outbreak occurred in central Florida on the week of the same original date, killing many people. Due to this, the opening was pushed back until Spring, 1998.
