Twin Lakes is a complex of two large lakes in Lake Clark National Park in the U.S. state of Alaska near the town of Port Alsworth. It contains a 9.7-km-long (6 mi) upper lake and a smaller 6.5-km-long (4 mi) lower lake, joined by a short connecting stream. It is quite remote and unpopulated, except in the late summer as it is a popular hunting spot.
The lake complex was the retirement home of Richard Proenneke, who spent most of the last 30 years of his life living there in a log cabin he built by hand.
The latitude and longitude given in the previous version of this article - 60.28 N, 150.15528 W - were incorrect. I've changed the coordinates to 60.6491 degrees N, 153.8125 degrees W. I determined these coordinates using the Lake Clark National Park map and DeLorme Street Atlas USA 2007. I used the Lake Clark National Park map to visually determine the location of the Richard Proenneke Historic Site and then found this location on the DeLorme map of the region to determine the coordinates. I've given the coordinates to four decimal places; each 0.0001 of a degree of longitude is about 6 meters (20 feet) at latitude 60 degrees.
If you click on the coordinates, you are taken to Map sources/GeoHack page in Wiki Tools. There you can click on a link to Google Maps. However, if you do this, you are taken to a place in eastern Siberia. Apparently, the wrong coordinates are being passed to the Google Maps program. I don't know how to fix this problem.
Also, the original article has a picture titled Twin Lakes. I can't say whether this picture is of the actual Twin Lakes in Lake Clark National Park, or if it's a picture of the lake that happens to be at the original coordinates.
