Twilight Heroes (TH) is a free-to-play, humorous, browser-based multiplayer role playing game, designed and operated by Quirkz Media. It is notable for its use of surreal humor, parody and references to pop culture, and word play (most notably the spoonerism). In TH, players fight a variety of enemies for experience, chips (the game's currency), and items through a turn-based system. TH is free to play, but offers incentives for donations.

[edit] Plot

The game takes place in a fictious area named Twilight City which is similar to an average American city. The city's in game currency are casino chips and are usually attained by selling possessions, defeating enemies, etc. In the beginning you start as a middle-waged apathetic average citizen in a city run down by mobs, gangsters and crime. But after the player's apartment is ransacked, he or she decides he or she had enough of this. Then he or she proceeds outside to find a suspicious figure trolling around, who then proceeds toward the player. Trying to be a hero, the player charges this man but is quickly taken down and left to lie on the streets. Afterward the character wakes up and, depending on which type of character the player picked, will find that type's respective item.

[edit] Gameplay

Twilight Heroes's main objective is to help victims and fight crime and generally be a "hero", hence the name. During the game many quests and in-game story arcs may be encountered, and many, kind of, "bosses" may be fought. In order to fight enemies, the player must find areas to "patrol". Patrolling may have two outcomes: either a fight will be initiated or a small story will be read. Patrolling takes time, and once all turns are used up, will mean the player's bedtime has arrived. Time also can change quests and areas in a way. There is also a wide variety of equipment and average items that can be obtained and possibly usable.

The game is similar to Kingdom of Loathing in the sense of humour. Both games have slight gameplay duration limitations in which players can adventure, or patrol in this case, for a limited number of time.

[edit] Areas

At the start, the player may only visit "Somerset Square" and his or her "Hideout". There are many other places visitable in the game. They vary on the time, the current story setting, or type of transportation. There are two types of transportations in the game: Bicycles/Shoes and Vehicles. Shoes and Bicycles can can be bought or found and have a range of 1, which can unlock "University Heights", "Seedy Casinos", "Downtown Twilight", "Porcelain Bay" and "Bayside". The player may also buy a vehicle which can give the player as much as 2 range, and thus allow the player to further discover Twilight City and beyond.

The "Hideout" is the area where the player can rest and regain HP points and PP points, thought it will take time. The player may also assemble two items together, access his or her computer (if available), manage character specialty-only items and switch types of transportation in the garage. If the player has a Welding torch, he or she may also weld together various metals.

Somerset Square is some sort of suburb in which the player lives in. This area has the largest number of partol-able areas and usually weakest enemies. There are many shops in this area too.
