Twelveheads
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Twelveheads is a hamlet in the Carrick district of Cornwall, in the United Kingdom. It lies between Truro and Redruth. Twelveheads is close to Wheal Busy and the Poldice Valley and also the Coast to Coast cycle route.
Twelveheads has a small Methodist chapel.
The name comes from the villages mining history. Sets of stamps (machines used for crushing ore) were once used on the dressing floors in the village. The stamps had a total of twelve 'heads'.
In Twelveheads there is also the 'Twelveheads Gate' into the Poldice Valley - the path of the mineral tramway, popular with cyclists, horseriders and walkers.
On walking around Twelveheads, the old village pub and post office can be seen, now houses, many of which are occupied by older residents, who will be able to tell you more about their history.
There is also a strong community spirit in Twelveheads - check the notice board for coffee mornings and fayres.
