[edit] FL vs Fla
Twalls, while "Fla" is a correct abbreviation of "Florida" and I see no need to revert your revision, I wouldn't agree that "Fla" is the correct abbreviation of "Florida." "FL" is the standard abbreviation used by the US Postal Service, and as such is used just as commonly (or more commonly than) "Fla." Both are standard acceptable usage. Buddhagazelle 03:35, 13 June 2007 (UTC) (Go Gators!)
- Hello, Buddhagazelle. Thanks for your comment. According to the AP stylebook and the Chicago Manual of style, traditional state abbreviations should be used in text, not the postal ones. Those are for addressing postcards and letters, and for various computer programs. The USPS even makes the distinction, as I've even more than one modern Post Office in Florida with "City name, Fla." written on the outside of the building. See you around. Twalls 04:02, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hm. I can't find anything in Wikipedia:Manual of Style that refers to this issue. Only here: Wikipedia:Manual of Style (abbreviations)#Things to avoid, that one should spell out the name of a state in the article rather than abbreviating it. So as the Wikipedia Manual of Style doesn't prefer one system of abbreviation over another (Wikipedia does not adhere to Chicago, AP, or any other external stylebook), I'd be inclined to maintain that both versions are acceptable. They're both commonly used. Pardon my quibble, though-- I'm more intellectually interested in this than actually concerned about it. Later. Buddhagazelle 18:24, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] You're welcome
De nada - I liked your improvements on the Guanches page by the way, keep it up. :) --Khoikhoi 23:47, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
Hi ! Why the link AmarokProg.net is out of the list for Progressive Rock ???? Regards
- I'm not sure. I never changed or deleted that link. Thanks for pointing out the link though! Twalls 14:54, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pre-Columbian trans-oceanic contact
Please do not mark your major edits as "minor", as you did with Pre-Columbian trans-oceanic contact. -- Petri Krohn 15:52, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
I think what happened was I may have made the larger edit, and then made a minor edit, then reverted to the previous version, marking the reversion as such. I know the difference between a major and a minor edit. Twalls 16:54, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Models of Migration to the New World
Dear Twalls: I am glad you found the points I made of interest - but I am a bit puzzled about the mention of a "copper boat". I did mention that the Tlingit people say they originally came from Copper River - but not in a copper boat. They did, however, gather "native copper" and fashion it into big plaques that were often painted and given away at potlatches. I have also posted this message on the Discussion page of the Models of Migration to the New World article John Hill 00:06, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Karakul sheep
Hello - I noticed you have made several comments to talk:212.98.201.1 and have made some minor translations. Can you look at the Karakul page? This user has made some edits noting Turkish meansings and with this user's history of ill-advised edits, I would like to validate the edits if at all possible. Thank you. --BlindEagletalk*contribs 18:03, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, BlindEagle. I'll have a look.Twalls 20:01, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Beatle Bob
I am overjoyed at the fact that there is a Wikipedia page for ubiquitous concert and festival goer (and sometimes music journalist) Beatle Bob. Twalls 02:56, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] charred feathers
what is the deal with this guy? he's been here a few months and still doesn't seem to understand the concept of WP:OR and WP:CITE. Specifically http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Indigenous_peoples_of_the_Americas&diff=prev&oldid=133828327 Are we going to have to keep reverting his edits forever? --Rebent 17:13, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- I think he's trying to contribute in his own way, but ends up being rather disruptive. If it persists, he can be temporarily blocked from editing. Thanks for your comments. Twalls 20:44, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Impact Event studies
Evidence for an extraterrestrial impact 12,900 years ago that contributed to the megafaunal extinctions and the Younger Dryas cooling [1]
Multi-institutional 26-member team of researchers propose a startling new theory: that an extraterrestrial impact, possibly a comet, set off a 1,000-year-long cold spell and wiped out or fragmented the prehistoric Clovis culture and a variety of animal genera across North America almost 13,000 years ago. [edit] Bill Kristol
Is a neoconservative, I believe it's perfectly fine to add that to his list of credentials in the opening sentence. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.30.110.164 (talk) 19:50, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
- I don't disagree, but it can be worded slightly differently. Plus, ampersands in plain old copy are bad style. :) Thanks, and Merry Christmas. Twalls (talk) 19:54, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Warning vandals
Hello Twalls.
I noticed that you revert a good amount of vandalism. Thank you for helping keep Wikipedia the best encyclopedia in the world!
However, I have noticed that you do not always leave warnings on the vandals talk pages. You should always leave an appropriate warning after reverting vandalism. (The full list of talk page warnings may be found here, along with some suggestions and guidelines for using them.)
Be sure to leave the correct level of warning, and if the vandal has been warned four times in the last month, (Check the vandal's talk page history. Some vandals remove warnings from their talk pages.) report the vandal by going to this page and following the instructions.
Thank you again, and may the vandals fail... J.delanoygabsadds 17:15, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
- Well, the warnings are for the vandals to read, but they are also used by admins to decide whether or not to block the IP or user. A vandal has to be warned at least once before they can be blocked.
- Also, if you want to fight vandalism with an automatic tool, an excellent choice would be Twinkle. This tool can revert vandalism, warn vandals, file reports on WP:AIV, tag pages for speedy deletion, and do many other tasks automatically. There are other tools available, but most require an application to use them, so Twinkle would probably be best. J.delanoygabsadds 17:45, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Wahhabism
I noticed your interest in the Wahhabism article on the talk page. I was wondering if you could "referee" things over there. There is a specific editor whom i've interacted with over the past few months and who has become more and more belligerent over editing disputes. I'm hoping a third party might help things from getting out of hand, as i'm getting a bit tired of the constant personal attacks over simple editing disputes. Any help would be much appreciated. [edit] Killer Poke
The Smart Alec reference on the Killer Poke page was broke while the language was made more formal. Is there a more general alternative? VinCBR900 (talk) 19:34, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
