Tuscola Senior High School

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tuscola High School is a public senior high school located in Waynesville, North Carolina, United States of America about 30 miles (48 kilometers) west-southwest of Asheville. Tuscola High School was originally the Waynesville Township High School prior to 1966 when Haywood County had several high schools throughout the county. In 1966, the Haywood County School System decided to merge the high schools, and Waynesville Township High was moved to a new location and given a new name. It was renamed "Tuscola Senior High School" after the former name of the community in which it is located. Before Lake Junaluska was built, the community where the high school is was known as Tuscola- a Cherokee Indian name meaning "Digging in Many Places". Teachers at Tuscola take advantage of the name's meaning to encourage students to "dig for knowledge".
