Turpentine was a post-rock/indie band from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Formed in 2003 by Anabel Gorbatt (guitar and vocals) and Alejo Ulises Viola (drums), Pablo Gustavo Bracamonte (bass) joined them. In 2004 Leandro Julián Potroel replaced Viola and in early 2005 Nicolás Alonso (guitar and piano) joined the band. Leandro Potroel left the band in 2007, and was replaced by Guido Coto. Turpentine self-released three EPs Our Ways Back To Chaos and Honey Births, A Salt Troupe (both of them available online at their webpage); appeared in various magazines and has performed in several festivals from the argentinian indie music scene. On September 2007 the band officially announced their breakup on their website[1]. A final show and an EP were scheduled for October 2007.
[edit] Sound
Their sound can be described as post-rock with elements of noise rock, influenced by bands such as Unwound, Mogwai, Yo La Tengo and Modest Mouse. Although from a Spanish speaking country, their lyrics are sung in English.
