Turkish National League 1959

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1959 season was the first season of modern competitive football in Turkey. The league was named as Milli Lig (National League).

The season was shortened due to qualification tournaments that took up the first half of the season. The season was played in the second half.

There were two groups of eight clubs. The first group was Kirmizi Grup (Red Group) and the second was Beyaz Grup (White Group), named after the colors of the Turkish flag. The winner of each group would face each other in a two legged knockout.
