Turkey was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 by Sibel Tüzün, who was internally selected by national broadcaster TRT to represent Turkey with the song "Süperstar", which she wrote and composed herself. TRT presented the song that Sibel will sing in a special televised press conference, and presented the video clip which involves Sibel wearing a red hat with the Turkish flag. The song is modern disco with oriental elements.
Sibel Tüzün was born on 29 September 1971 in Istanbul, Turkey. She began her music education by joining TRT’s Istanbul Children's Choir. She was interested in pop and rock music during her high school years. Sibel sang with well known artists such as Ajda Pekkan and Nukhet Duru. In 1990 she participated in the Turkish Eurosong selection with the song "Kime Ne" and came in ninth place. In 1992 she released her first album Ah Biz Kızlar which brought her fame and success and led to the high popularity in her forthcoming albums and songs. 2003 brought Sibel to the peak of her career with her highly popular and successful album Kırmızı. Her last album to date is a compilation of remixes of her successful singles and versions of her songs in English and Greek.
She qualified eighth in the semi-final, and finished eleventh in the final. She finished just before Ireland in the semi-final, but just behind them in the final. Unfortunately, the eleventh place finish means Turkey must again compete in the semi-final next year.
