Turbojet train
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Turbojet train is a train powered by turbojet engine. The first turbojet train ER22 was built in the USSR in 1970.[1] It was able to reach speed up to 250 kilometres per hour (160 mph).[2] The locomotive had mass of 54.4 metric tons (including 7.4 tons of fuel) and length of 28 metres (92 ft). The engine was planned to be used as a part of "Russian troika" express.[2]
Another attempt to use turbojet engines on railroad was made by General Electric in 1966. Their railcar M-497 Black Beetle was able to reach speeds up to 296 kilometres per hour (184 mph).
