A turbine locomotive may be one of the following:
- A gas turbine locomotive uses a gas turbine as a power source and drives the wheels via a mechanical transmission.
- A gas turbine-electric locomotive also uses a gas turbine, but the turbine powers an alternator which in turn powers traction motors.
- A steam turbine locomotive uses a boiler and steam turbine as a power source.
