- According to The Names of Maine by Brian McCauley (Acadia Press, 2004), Turner is named after a Reverend Charles Turner, orginally of Duxbury, Massaschusetts, who was associated somehow with the proprietors of what is now the town of Turner, and eventually settled in the area.
