[edit] Her name

Not to be too pedantic (whoops, too late), but IMHO Messaien's most famous for his organ works, so I noted that the Turangalila Symphony is his most famous orchestral work. Clarify further if you like. --tgeller 03:23, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

Actually, i think that both her first and second names can be explained by the hindu usage of the word. 'Taranga Lila sometimes spelled leela is a concept from Hinduism that explains the universe as a cosmic puppet theater or playground for the gods' - The hindu application of the word leela --David 20:52, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

A correction: I'm hardly fluent in Spanish, but I can tell you that lila is lilac, not purple. Purple is purpúreo, or morado, so I've taken out that reference. I would also like to challenge the idea that the exact same word can mean the exact same thing in so many disparate languages. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.167.136.139 (talk) 08:19, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Leela=purple

Is there any evidence that the Leela=purple pun is anything other than a co-incidence? Ashmoo 06:30, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

I doubt that it is a coincidence, people usually plan a lot before they start a cartoon Go Futurama! Sp3000 21:33, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Removed the reference to meaning purple in Finnish 88.111.132.232 (talk) 16:18, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] hair

its says that the eye is the only mutant thing about her but do people inthe future have purple hair cuz if they dont that mutant.24.144.137.244 23:31, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Good point. It could be "cartoonic license" like marge simpsons blue hair. Or she dyes it. but with out a source you cant add it to the article. T.Neo 18:43, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

can't be that she dyes it, since one on her parents (her mother, I think it was) also had purple hair. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.100.207.233 (talk) 01:58, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] armband

Cubert Farnsworth also has an armband.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Feroshki (talkcontribs) 02:02, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Age

Leela was born in 2975, and it's currently Dec 31, 3007, or possibly Jan 1, 3008. So I think it's safe to assume her 33rd birthday hasn't come to pass yet, making her 32. It's currently listed as 26, so I'm going to go ahead and change it. Unless someone can cite reference in the show where they say her birthday is on Jan 1, in which case there's a slight possibility she's 33. I don't remember if they ever said when her birthday was though, and I highly doubt it's Jan 1. SpokeyDokey (talk) 06:39, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Love Life section in need of serious trimming

The Love life section is way too long currently containing 1 relationships the majority of which are extremely minor and many of which are not even shown directly in the series:

  • 3.1 Sean
  • 3.2 Doug
  • 3.3 Dean Vernon
  • 3.4 Zapp Brannigan
  • 3.5 Alcazar
  • 3.6 Adlai Atkins
  • 3.7 Chaz
  • 3.8 William Shatner
  • 3.9 Philip J. Fry
  • 3.10 Lars Fillmore
  • 3.11 The Robot Devil

I would recommend trimming the list to include only Zapp, Alcazar, Adlai, Chaz, Fry and Lars. Actually, I'd recommend trimming Alcazar, Adlai and Chaz as well but I guess they could stay for now since they were significant parts of at least one episode. Opinions? Stardust8212 02:37, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

There, done. Now, Is there any complaint about me continuing this and also removing Alcazar, Adlai and Chaz? Those were each only in one episode and didn't really carry over. The section should really be more focused on things that were significant to her overall character not characters that only appear in one episode. I'll give it about two weeks to see if there's any complaints. Stardust8212 16:33, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

I don't think that they should be removed, because the section's about her love life, not the love interests that contribute to her overall character. I also think that the other interests should not have been removed (Apart from the Robot Devil, since she didn't actually have feelings towards him). It would have been better if they had been placed in an 'Other' section.(86.135.20.112 (talk) 13:52, 2 May 2008 (UTC))

[edit] Lars Fillmore- Fry's clone?

Isn't clone the wrong word? I know that the Fry who continued living in the past is referred to as a 'duplicate,' but he wasn't really a fake Fry- just an alternate, secondary Fry. If no one has any objections within the week, I'll be editing the Lars Fillmore section then. (86.135.20.112 (talk) 14:02, 2 May 2008 (UTC))

[edit] Alcazar

Given the nature of the show and the producers penchant for classic video games, I'm pretty sure that Alcazar's name has a lot more to do with the classic video game (which is, in fact, based on the castle) http://www.generation-msx.nl/msxdb/softwareinfo/374 than the castle, as the article currently states. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 169.236.30.109 (talk) 22:53, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Leela/Doctor Who

"The show's creator Matt Groening is known to be a fan of the show Doctor Who, and it is possible he named the character of Leela after the Doctor Who companion of the same name.

We need some consensus on this one; I personally have no idea but some anonymous editors are apparently quite keen on either removing the link from the page or adding it in again. Anyone know what the truth is?

For the time being I've removed it, "it is possible" not being fine encyclopaedic style. Mallocks (talk) 07:30, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

As I've said elsewhere I think the best plan is to remove any content that can't be reliably sourced. If there isn't a source discussing the connection then it shouldn't be included in this article. Stardust8212 13:18, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
