Tupolev I-12

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tupolev I-12 (Development name ANT-23) was a 1931 prototype Soviet fighter aircraft that never reached production.

Of unconventional design in employing a tandem fore-and-aft engine arrangement and twin tailbooms embodying recoilless gun tubes as integral, but non-load-carrying, structural components, the ANT-23 single-seat fighter was conceived at the AGOS TsAGI by Viktor N Chernyshov.

It was armed with two recoilless 76 mm cannon, incorporated in the hollow tail booms.

Only a prototype was built.

Two 525 hp (391 kW) Gnome-Rhône 9K (Bristol Jupiter) engines.
