I have found this claim concerning Vohlonen in several places. I cannot understand the claims being made about his inventing the liquid compass. Edward S.Ritchie holds several U.S. patents pertaining to the liquid compass he invented and shortly after sold in quantity to the U.S.Navy. Many of these compasses were "portable" as they were often gimbaled in a wooden box. Oh, by the way, Ritchie's patents preceed those of Vohlonen by almost 70 years!
