Tune Hotels or Tune Hotels.com are the "no-frills" hotels operated by Tune Hotels.Com Sdn. Bhd. Its co-founder is Tony Fernandes, the founder of the low cost airline in Malaysia, AirAsia.

Tony Fernandes has confirmed locations for the new hotels. Six Tune Hotels will be operated by the end of 2008 or as early as mid 2008.

  • In Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Kuala Lumpur, with 173 rooms, now open for occupancy.
  • In Kota Kinabalu, Sabah with 168 rooms, part of the 1Borneo development, now open for occupancy.
  • Near the Low Cost Carrier Terminal, Kuala Lumpur International Airport, scheduled for third quarter 2008.
  • In Danga Bay, Johor Bahru, with 220 rooms, scheduled to open 3rd Quarter 2008 [1].
  • In Kuching, Sarawak, with 150 rooms, located at Kuching city center, scheduled to open in December 2008, or January 2009
  • In Burmah Road, George Town, Penang, with 260 rooms, Scheduled to open in July 2008.[2]
  • In Penang, Batu Ferringhi, with 215 rooms, right on the beach, Scheduled to open in 3rd Quarter 2008.
  • In Miri, Sarawak, Schedule to open by December 2008.[3]
  • In Sandakan, Sabah, Schedule to open by December 2008.[4]

In 14 of May 2007, Tune Hotels announced its plans to establish its first property in East Malaysia at the upcoming 1 Borneo hypermall in Kota Kinabalu. The expansion programme offers the company an exciting opportunity to fill in the large gap of quality branded no-frills accommodation in South East Asia region. The company sees a huge upside in Kota Kinabalu's tourism market over the next 4-5 years.

The Flagship hotel and the first Tune Hotel in operation was opened in April 2007 to showcase the elements of the "no frills" concept. Situated in the heart of Kuala Lumpur at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, it will be a direct competitor to the three star hotels, with the central promise of:

  • clean and comfortable rooms
  • great central locations
  • power showers
  • security cameras
  • 5-star beds with high quality duvets.

In order to keep the price low, it offers none of these as part of the room charges:

  • Television, radio, or coffee table
  • Refrigerator or mini-bar
  • Towels, soaps or shampoos
  • Private telephone line
  • Wardrobes
  • A safe
  • Gym and breakfast

However, it provides the core amenities and facilities:

  • Ceiling fan in all rooms
  • Add-on air-conditioner hours
  • Writing desk
  • Lockers for luggage storage
  • 24 hour lobby convenience store
  • Lobby Internet kiosk with hotel wide wifi
  • Amenities kits for sale (includes towel, soap, and shampoo)

[edit] Kota Kinabalu Tune Hotels

A new branch of Tune Hotels will be opened in Kota Kinabalu's1 Borneo Mall on April 15, 2008. The amenities are similar to the flagship hotel in Kuala Lumpur except with the following frills:

  • 19-inch LCD television
  • Options of hairdryer
  • WiFi within the lobby
  • In room safe

A new branch of Tune Hotels will be opened in Kota Kinabalu's1 Borneo Mall on April 15, 2008. The amenities are similar to the flagship hotel in Kuala Lumpur except with the following frills:Tune hotel have been critizised for it's lack of amenities like for example paying for aircon and even soap.
