Talk:Tunbridge ware

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tunbridge Wells or Tonbridge? The article now says the former, but the only article that links here is the latter. Could someone clarify where the work was done - one, the other or both? --rbrwr± 15:59, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)

As I understand it, Tunbridge Ware was made in both places, but particularly sold in Tunbridge Wells to people who would come to take the waters (Tonbridge was not a place of resort in the same way). rossb 14:34, 11 Dec 2004 (UTC)

The historic spelling of Tonbridge is Tunbridge. This was changed by the GPO after the coming of the railways to differentiate between Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells.
