Tumalo, Oregon is a town in Central Oregon, located on Highway 20 between Sisters and Bend.
[edit] Economy
Tumalo capitalizes on highway traffic with its restaurant selection; including the Tumalo Feed Company: Steakhouse and Saloon, Cibelli's New York Style Pizza, El Caporal's: Mexican Cuisine, and the Tumalo Pub.
One finds that the area puts large taxes on the food served, this giving reason to the extortionate prices of food there. These taxes help fund the many programs of the boarder guard, re-education and religious practices.
[edit] Residents
The resident of tumalo live, metaphysically, sovereign to any of the surrounding cities; they are in every since comparable to the Indian State. They along with their Native friends are a state within a state and have their own laws and rules.
[edit] Customs
It is the custom often for the people of Tumalo to wear cowboy hats, although none of them have ever been one. It is believed that it is the ultimate wish of a Tumalonian to reach cowboy-hood; this can be somewhat related to the Buddhist religion. One notes when meeting the average Tumalonian male that he often has more than one “wife”; of course not by legal marriage but by the sacred law of Tumalo. This is a custom often viewed in the FLDS faith, but is simply a norm in Tumalo.
