Tulun

Tulun (Russian: Тулун) is a town and administrative center of Tulunsky District, Irkutsk Oblast, Russia, located on the Iya River (Angara's basin), 390 km northwest of Irkutsk. Population: 49,400 (2006 est.); 51,848 (2002 Census); 52,903 (1989 Census).
Tulun was founded in the second half of the 18th century as a village in the Iya valley. It was granted town status twice: first in 1922 (until 1924) and then in 1927.
There is a hydrolysis plant in the town.
