[edit] Discussion

Another version of this article spelled his name "Tullio Levi-Cività" with an accented "à". This appears to be wrong: the Italian Wikipedia, in particular, does not use this spelling. -- The Anome 10:20, 25 Apr 2004 (UTC)

In http://www-gap.dcs.st-and.ac.uk/~history/References/Levi-Civita.html , only two of all the references, both by the same author, use the "Levi-Cività" spelling. -- The Anome 10:23, 25 Apr 2004 (UTC)

[edit] pronunciation

(pronounced le-ve shi-vit-e) — could this be made more explicit? Does 'e' mean the same sound in all three places? If so, why such a huge deviation from what one would expect in Italian? —Tamfang 07:22, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

Using english pronunciation I would write this name as: "'Too-llee-ou 'Leh-vee 'Chee-vee-tah" but it is rather inaccurate. As for IPA symbols, italian is almost always identical to IPA symbols, so i would write "'levi 'ʈʃivita " , but i am not sure i am picking the correct symbol for the "c" in Civita (postalveolar affricate).
