TUI Airlines
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The TUI Airline Management (prior to the creation of the German airline of the same name also referred to as TUIfly) is an organization that links the 7 airlines of the TUI group. It is largest leisure fleet in Europe and the fifth largest European air carrier with more than 100 aircraft. Its parent company TUI Travel PLC is the largest tourism group in Europe. The members of TUI Airlines operate scheduled flights as well as charter flights to more than 150 destinations worldwide departing from more than 60 airports in 9 European countries. The Morocco-based airline Jet4you is not part of TUI Airlines, even though TUI is one of its shareholders.
The name TUIfly and the actual alliance were created in November 2005 to carry out the new marketing strategy of the TUI Group, organizing the activities of all member airlines under a single name. As a result, all member airlines were rebranded with the name best known in their local market or the name of the principal tour operator All member airlines, with the exception of HLX.com, acquired the suffix "-fly" and had their aircraft repainted in the light blue TUI colours with a red TUI logo on the tail.
TUI Airlines carries millions of vacation travelers and business passengers every year. In 2005 they had a passenger volume of 25 million and employed more than 8,200 people.
TUI Airlines has announced that it is going to merge all of its airlines under the new brand TUIfly, allegedly starting with Thomsonfly in 2008.
