Tufanganj is located at 26.32° N 89.67° E[1]. It has an average elevation of 70 metres (229 feet). The river Raidak flows beside this beautiful town.

As of 2001 India census[2], Tufanganj had a population of 19,293. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Tufanganj has an average literacy rate of 82%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 86%, and female literacy is 77%. In Tufanganj, 9% of the population is under 6 years of age.
